Review by Pandaexpress64 -- We are Voulhire: The Fires o...
The second book to the series is a rollercoaster of emotions that you think you know until you are hit with the plot twist. We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko written by Matthew Tysz really captured the essence of the old and new characters presented in this book. The journey unfolds in the city of Virko where the character Demetrius grew up as a child and furthermore discovers the evil that lies within the cities underground. The Eiodi in Yamon Soul becomes aware of a virus that could potentially cause a major threat; but the fact that the source is unidentifiable is dangerous. New characters such as Folcro and Kayden are introduced in such a way that makes one want to never imagine the world without this toxic duo. You never know what is going to happen when starting one of Tysz’s books and that is exactly what makes his books so addicting.
I liked how his writing style stayed consistent from the previous book in terms of being descriptive and dramatic in his setting and character descriptions. I also liked how within each chapter the plot thickens and just when you think everything might be resolved something tragic happens in another city that stirs the pot even more. This book intrigues the mind to the point where it is difficult to predict the outcome at the end. To be honest, there are not many books that can prevent the reader from foreseeing the ending. This goes to show that this book is filled to the brim with originality and imagination.
However, I would say that something that I did not like was the transition of power in the city of Virko. Of course, this is purely based on the plot itself and not the writing because the book itself was off the charts. There were parts that left me with more questions than answers which made it hard for me to interpret what was going on. When such a pivotal point in the plot occurs, it is important to fully comprehend the action that is taking place and that was a little challenging for me. Hopefully, there will be more of an explanation in the third book to rid my confusion because other than that one hiccup, the book was truly terrific and exhilarating to read.
Overall, I would without a doubt rate this book a solid 4 out of 4 because regardless of the slight confusion on my part, this book is an adventurous and outstanding read. One can clearly tell that the author has plenty of experience and has written each chapter with passion and creativity. The book was exceptionally well edited to the point where it was hard to find one if any misspellings or typos. This type of book deserves a rating such as this because the book series had been very well planned to keep each reader engaged throughout the entire plot.
The recommended audience for this book would have to be for young adults up to mature audiences since there are more than plenty of profane words that are spread throughout the story. In addition, there were also some hidden references to certain topics that may be considered inappropriate to children. Although, I know that anyone that is interested in sci-fi, adventure, and fantasy will surely enjoy such a thrilling series as this. There are plenty of scenes that explore their magic that come from both good and evil sides and foreshadowing that may lead to much more than I expected.
