Filming of Stephen King's Dark Tower Series

I read that for a screen adaptation of Stephen King's Dark Tower Series Russell Crowe is cast as Roland The Gunslinger.
I've only read the first 2 Stephen King Dark Tower novels, but I just cannot see Russell Crowe as Roland. Anyone have any thoughts? Do you agree with his casting? Is there any actor whom you think can possibly do Roland justice?
