The Death Brothers: A Supernatural Awakening by Dee Rose is an action-packed fantasy fiction book that engages the reader in the life of Jericho Caine and Tom Padilla. Jericho was a renowned vampire slayer and Tom, formerly a priest, was a demon hunter who was reputable for his many successes in exorcism. The two brothers are destined to protect the earth from attacks by supernatural creatures.

Jericho and Tom planned to attack the sirens – a group of female vampires – for murdering Jericho’s former assistant. Their encounter with the sirens didn’t turn out as expected. The sirens briefed the two brothers about the existence of a male siren named Thaden, the sirens’ only brother, and his abduction by an unknown stranger who claimed to know Jericho. Without much deliberation, the sirens successfully convinced Tom and Jericho to change their course of action and help them find Thaden. Unbeknownst to the two brothers, Thaden was being morphed into a vampire-werewolf hybrid by the unknown stranger to help him kill Tom. The idea of killing Tom was just one of the ploys by Sariel, a rogue female angel, to separate the two brothers and finally get to have Jericho all to herself.

I find this narrative to be very entertaining. There was no dull moment here because of the numerous fight scenes worthy of keeping the reader engrossed in the book. The story wasn’t just about throwing punches and fighting demons as there was a bit of romance and plenty of wits. I enjoyed reading the parts where Jericho threw shades at Tom. He often called Tom a faithless priest for leaving the priesthood. It might interest you to know that this book could serve as a stand-alone book, notwithstanding that it’s part of a series.

The major flaw of this narrative is that it seems a bit rushed. The characters’ decisions and actions were forced so that the story would progress. I would remove a star from the rating because of the forced drama. It was displeasing that the characters were easily convinced to accept just any offer without much deliberation, no matter how bizarre the offer sounded. This was evident when Wilma agreed to let Sarah follow her to her hometown when she barely knew Sarah. Another star would be deducted due to the lack of professional editing. I encountered over ten errors halfway through the book. Therefore, I would give The Death Brothers: A Supernatural Awakening a rating of 2 out of 4 stars.

I would recommend this narrative to lovers of fantasy fiction books. The presence of vampires, werewolves and demons give a premonition of gore, so I wouldn’t expect someone sensitive to such scenes to pick up the book.

I also dislike narratives with unrealistic character decisions and reactions. Your review was well-written, and your rating was explained in detail. Thanks for the great review!

I love book about supernatural, but it is getting harder to find a good and original book with such a theme. Thank you for your honest review and great job!

I wonder if Thaden somehow recognized his Siren siblings and if they ever got to meet. The book sounds interesting. Great job with the review!

The storyline reminds of the movie series Supernatural[i\]. It's a shame that the narrations in the book appear rushed. Thanks for your honest review.

Thanks for your engaged review. Since this book sounds interesting, it's a pity that the logic and drama are forced. It could be better if the author adds some tension or suspense to the plot.

I only had to see the word "vampires" and I already know this book is not for me. I don't deal well with supernatural, horrific creatures. Forced drama or lack of professional editing doesn't sound that good either. From what I read, I suppose this book has some potential, but would need some more work to it in order to become a good book.

Thank you for your thorough review!

It's too bad that the story isn't as realistic as one would expect. Or perhaps that the characters aren't realistic. If that can be fixed, this would be a great story. Thanks.

Sounds quite discouraging, also, vampires are not my cup of tea, but thanks for this honest and insightful review! :)

I like books that include mythical creatures, but it sounds like the author failed at creating suspense. Surely the brothers wouldn't just abandon their objective like that with just a bit of persuasion. Despite my love of fantasy, this sounds just a bit too unrealistic (if that can be said of fantasy), I'll be skipping it. Thanks for your honest review!

Vampire slayers, demon hunters, male sirens, AND werewolves?! 🐺 What a supernatural storyline this must have been. Thank you for your insightful and honest review.

This does sound like an entertaining book, but the forced and rushed plot would bother me too. Thanks for the great review!

The supernatural is always so mysterious. It's not my favorite theme though. Thanks for a detailed review.
