Review by J Gaston 042 -- We are Voulhire: A New Arrival...
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a fantasy novel set in a world where magic, knights, royalty, and strange creatures exist. It is the first installment of a six-part series. There are two kingdoms in the story. One ruled by the Emperor of Lullabies, which is called the Land of the Princes. While the other kingdom is Voulhire, ruled by a human king.
The story begins with the journey of our main character Galen, who left the Land of the Princes to travel to Voulhire. He traveled by boat to go to a place called Magnum Caelum, one of the cities at Voulhire, where his great uncle was a respected blacksmith. His uncle owns a forge and wants him to inherit it. It is at Magnum Caelum where his adventure of a lifetime would begin; alongside another interesting character that would serve as his guide in a kingdom that he was still unfamiliar with.
In the southern part of Voulhire, lies Hillport. The town was still recovering from a recent horrible incident. The king was determined to restore and improve Hillport’s current situation. However, Hillport has a dark secret. This is where they imprisoned someone who they didn’t want people to know was alive. Meanwhile, evil is lurking in an underground network hidden somewhere in Voulhire. An old defeated foe that almost destroyed the kingdom in the past was regaining its strength, with one goal in mind, to destroy the Kingdom of Voulhire.
I chose to read this book because I found the title and book cover interesting. When I started reading the book I immediately got hooked. It was already action-packed at the beginning of the story. The writing style was engaging because there was a lot of action in the book and the three main characters’ personalities made it more interesting. The author used dialogues to show the unique personalities of the characters and humor to make it lively. However, there is some violence, some sexual reference, and profanity in the story. It may not be suitable for readers below the age of 16.
The book was well written and I didn’t find typographical and grammatical errors. It was exceptionally edited. I would recommend this book to lovers of the fantasy genre. I would also recommend that you read the other books in this series. I really enjoyed reading it even though I am not a fan of this genre. Having mentioned all of the above factors, I would rate it 4 out of 4 stars.
