We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a fantasy novel in a series with the main protagonist being a refugee who has escaped and has now immigrated to a completely new country that he has never stepped foot into before. The story follows the journey of Galen, who discovers the many wonders of the world. Despite his many hardships, will Galen manage to find his way in a world full of magic and strangers? Read the book to find out more!

A positive aspect of this book is that Galen seems like a character who is alive like an actual human being and not just a fictional character with no personality. Galen shows his emotions while interacting with his family and evokes both sympathy and pity from the reader as they read about the plights he had to endure. He also builds friendships with others, allowing the reader to find out more about Galen through the conversations he has with others. Another positive aspect of this book is the world building. The author ensured that the story could hook the reader, packed with great descriptions and more.

After reading all about Voulhire, I found myself wanting to consume more of such content. The reference guide at the end of the book really helped me figure out the terms, making the story much more enjoyable to read, as I understood what everything meant soon enough. Since it ends on a cliffhanger, it is left up to the reader’s interpretation until they manage to get their hands on the second book of the series.

Although I had expected some errors while reading, I have found none. The book was pleasant and I have found nothing to dislike immensely. Though I was confused with the amount of new characters that I had to take note of, I think fantasy readers who give the book a chance are able to find some enjoyment in it, regardless of their tastes.

Therefore, I rate this book a 4 out of 4. The reason for this rating is because the editing was superb and there were minimal errors. Even though it is the first in the series, it is off to a good start due to its world building and interesting characters that are realistic. Even side characters like Rowan who sticks close to Galen throughout the story is snarky and humorous with dialogues that are interesting.

I would recommend this book to those who love the fantasy genre. It is captivating and allows readers to fill in the gaps without explaining every single detail. Thus, I believe that those who are interested should definitely give this book a try!
