Bloodlines by Richelle Mead

I just finished reading Bloodlines. It is the first in the Vampire Academy spin off series by Richelle Mead. Sydney is put in charge of protecting a royal moroi girl while the queen tries to throw out the law that is endangering the royal's life. She is also trying to reprove herself as trustworthy to her superiors.

I am very pleased and happy that Richelle Mead decided to write a spin off series of The Vampire Academy. I was sad when the series ended. I even loved the way she tied it in so nicely to the previous series. It was absolutely amazing.

The only thing I didn't really like all that much was the fact that the main character wasn't a moroi or dhamphir. I understand why she made Sydney the main character. It was her story after all. I just feel that Sydney being the main character made the story a little more stiff than if it was someone else. That's just my opinion though. Either way, the story was very enjoyable.

I feel like I'm going to love this series as much as I did the Vampire Academy series. I fully recommend this book series to young adults and anybody who loves paranormal and supernatural books. I especially recommend it to all Vampire Academy lovers.

Can you read this as a stand-alone series? or do you need to have read Vampire Academy to understand what is happening?

It can be read as a stand alone. It just makes some references to the other series but it's not enough to confuse.

I a prefer the Bloodline series over Vampire Academy. I guess it is because i like Adrian more than dimitri. I have read all the books in the Bloodline series and I have to say that Fiery Heart left me needing more. I don't know why I read a book on the release date and have to wait a year for the next. I guess i enjoy hurting myself. I think you will enjoy the Bloodline series. In comparison to VA, the lead female has a completely different personality, but she is strong.

I love this series. :) It just gets better and better. I'm not sure if I'd recommend reading it without reading Vampire Academy first, though. There's a lot of history and information that's pretty crucial to understanding the story in the first series, but I guess Mead does do a good job of covering most of it. I was a bit wary of Sydney being a stiff character to follow as well, but I felt that it got better as the plot moved along. Adrian's shenanigans shaking things up every now and then helped out quite a bit, although that may not have happened too much in the first book. (It's been awhile.) I definitely can't wait for the release of Silver Shadows!
