Half-Off Ragnarok by Seanan McGuire is the third book in the urban fantasy InCryptid series. There is a tectonic shift in the flow and narration of the book as the latest installment is narrated by Alex Price, Verity's brother. It is well-written, sensibly fun, but there is a certain amount of predictability which takes away much gloss from the book. In all honesty, this book does not come up to expectation or the standard Seanan McGuire herself set.

The story is set in Ohio where Alex works as a visiting researcher in a zoo studying feathered frogs. He's dating Dr. Shelby Tanner, an Australian biologist who works with the big cats. When his assistant is found dead and petrified, Alex scurries to investigate if one of his subjects is loose. But the whole mess is much more worrisome than he earlier thought to be.

All in all, Seanan McGuire’s Half-Off Ragnarok is an exciting read that many fans will simply enjoy. She has the propensity for creating heroes you can really root for. Most of her characters are convincing and down-to-earth.
