Voulhire was divided into various regions based on economical, religious, cultural and social factors. Virko was one of these regions, and their main activity was industry. In this entry, we explore Virko; its political and industrial aspects. The history of Virko is discussed; how it was built, and how it has grown over the years to become Voulhire's industrial center. But will it survive the coming storm?

Galen continues in his mission to live up to his uncle's legacy. Requiring iron, he must travel to Virko to procure more and his two friends go with him. The trio travels to Virko where they meet with the city's lord and founder. He is now old and sickly, but he agrees to help them. However, he has a request of his own. Lord Venden is discussed, and we learn how Virko came to be. His son, Hans, is also introduced and discussed in detail. Unlike his father, Hans is more academically inclined, but with a darker disposition. He has at his command, a bound up demon in an underground cellar. Lord Venden's dying wish was for Galen's friend and monk, Demetrius, to help rid of this demon. Demetrius is devoted to fulfilling this task and attempts to unbind and kill the demon, but this might do more harm than good!

Hillport has now been left destitute and desolate after the Rohavi attacked it. Meldorath lays low for sometime here, contriving some grand plan. The Eiodi, among other characters, is described in more detail. A mysterious virus is discovered; but its nature is beyond the skill of the best doctors and mages of Yamon Soul, including the Eiodi himself. Meldorath, being the architect of this virus, takes advantage of this window of opportunity and travels to Yamon Soul. Disguised as an alchemist, he claims to have discovered the nature of this virus. He immediately attracts the attention of the Eiodi and his associates who meet in order to learn more about this discovery. But Meldorath may have a deadly plan. Galen, Rowan, and Demetrius travel back to Magnum Caelum where they continue probing the nature of the mysterious rock they had found in Alcovia. Demetrius discovers the nature and purpose of this rock. However, this discovery presents more questions and fears.

We are Voulhire: The fires of Virko is the second entry into the "We are Voulhire" series by Mathew Tysz. I loved how the plot is well developed and lacks the obscurity of the first entry. Characters are well developed, and Voulhire is described in more detail, thereby better immersing the reader in the reading experience. Galen has more adventures. I loved traveling and adventuring with him, given the first person narration style used to describe his character.

The only thing I hated about the book, as in the first entry, is how evil continues to triumph. Major characters perish in the hands of rogue mages, terrorists or demons. However, being a sequel, I'm hoping good will eventually prevail.

I would rate the book 4 out of 4 stars. The plot is well developed and easy to follow. It is suspenseful and once started it is hard to set the book down. I found only one typo, and the instances of profanity are only used in the context of Rowan's character which makes him riveting. I would recommend this book to lovers of the first book. Also, I would not recommend reading it without the foundational information contained in the first entry.
