Review by Bookishkrish24 -- We are Voulhire: A New Arriv...
We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is a fantasy novel written by Matthew Tysz. This book is the first of nine books in the series. This is the story of Voulhire. The city is entangled in the mesh of worldly life, magic, and change.
People emigrate there in the hope of the perfect life that Voulhire offers. The voulhire is full of secrets, legends, and tales of how the city became what it is now. Instead of being a wholesome story, this serves mainly as an introductory book. The author used this first book mainly to develop the world of Voulhire. This will lead readers, wanting to read more of the sequel.
This story involves several interesting characters. Meldoroth is a powerful mage whose character remained mysterious until the very end of the story. There is also Galen, a kind-hearted, humble emigre whose story is written in the first-person narrative. Lord Eldus is also an important part of the story. He is an ambitious character who is the perfect master of any city's dream.
The author's world development was such that it allows the reader to ponder the possibility of the presence of other worlds, which are anonymous to the physical world. After reading the book, I wished for the existence of Caromentis. One would definitely appreciate the amount of creativity that has gone through the author's mind in weaving each string of magic and logic, creating a beautiful balance.
Many stories happen in parallel. Each story has its own essence, which prompts readers to fall in love with each story at the same time. For some unknown reason, I didn't stamp any character evil. All of them have a perfect explanation for what they are and how they will be.
What I least appreciate is that I find it hard to keep track of all the difficult names and places. There were times when I have to go back to check what a particular place was. That said, there is a glossary at the end of the book, which can be used as a reference guide.
This book is professionally edited. I recommend this book to casual readers and those who enjoy fantasy alike. The author's use of logic and physics throughout the book can also be tempting to those who like a world of magic with a pinch of reality. That said, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.
