We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is the first book of a series that explores the fantastical fictional world of Voulhire. We follow the main character Galen Bray who finds himself left with a generous inheritance after his uncle's death. He leaves the devastated Lands of the Princes for the Kingdom of Voulhire, where he hopes to find a better life. Many others like him escape joining the peaceful and prosperous world that is entangled in its own politics and religion.

My favourite thing about this book was the vibrant setting and lively characters. Matthew Tysz crafted amazing descriptions that danced on the page, producing a truly riveting story. My reading experience was nothing short of hallucinatory. Space, time, and individual identity become but a distant memory, while the world around me became that of Voulhire. I came expecting a simple story about a fantasy world, and I left with a piece of me still there. I cannot imagine reading the first book of this series without itching for more once it is finished.

What I didn't expect diving into this series was the smile lines and crows feet I'd have to botox away after I was done. The fits of laughter I was subjected to were bordering on torturous - the secret comedic genius of Matthew Tysz leaves no room for a frown. I did not find any grammar or spelling errors. If they're there, I figure even a professional editor would struggle to dig their way to the surface out of this engrossing story long enough to find them. There are no negatives.

I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it was captivating and has stayed on my mind long after I've closed it.

I would recommend this book to any adult looking for a hilarious fantasy story that will let them forget about their own world for a little while. This book is not suitable for children because of the frequent instances of profane language and crude humour which may be considered offensive by even some adult audiences. There is also frequent mentioning of pedophilia throughout the book as it pertains to the storyline. This may be too heavy a subject for some to bear and narrows down the population that can comfortably enjoy this book. Other than that, this story serves as a great introduction to a compelling series.
