The second installment of the book gets darker, more twisted, and mind-boggling. Taking place in Virko: the industrious and wealthy city of Voulhire; the heart of Voulhire's economy. With villain after villain infiltrating this grand city; it's hard to determine which villain is more wicked.

Outsiders crave to be part of this seemingly prosperous land, but all is not as it seems within the walls of Virko- all that glitters is not gold. The citizens begin worrying about the rate at which the city is growing; foreseeing a lot of problems for this kind of rapid growth. Uneasiness settles in among some of the less ignorant citizens.

Trouble ensues when the lord of Virko, whose determination yielded the success and the wealth of the city suddenly falls ill and dies- in succession is his less noble son, set to inherit his father's empire and the throne, while meddling with dark and powerful magic; the future of Virko is surely at stake.

The conflict is between magic, science, and religion. Each entity aiming to overpower the other; expose the other's shortcomings. The lords desire more power, leading them into the temptation to tamper with dark magic, to their demise.

Great evil roams the streets of Virko, and people do more damage than good while trying to eradicate the evil, seeing as the supernatural's power is unmatched and quite dangerous. With all these evil forces, it's only a matter of time before Virko faces collapse. Is the state equipped to deal with such intrusions of magnificent power? Or will it fail and let its people perish? Will Virko be the next pile of ash and ruins?

Matthew Tysz incorporates humor and tragedy, which I liked about the book, one minute you're shocked then the next you're giggling; a perfect balance of genres. I also liked that in this installment, the LGBTQ community is represented; with lords themselves being homosexuals, it was interesting to read how Matthew Tysz perceives such issues.

I also liked that the supernatural and science fiction part of it is not confusing at all, I was able to vividly picture every scene. There's nothing I particularly disliked about We are Voulhire: The Fires Of Virko.

We are Voulhire: The Fires Of Virko is for the supernatural, fantasy, science fiction, and mystery fanatics. All these genres blend well in the book, making it more interesting. Having read more works from Matthew Tysz, I would just like to add that so far I've found his books to be the best, not taking anything away from other authors, but I feel that he's a brilliant writer.

I rate We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko a 4 out of 4 stars because it was well edited and proofread, with minor typos, and the scenes are well depicted and the storyline nothing short of phenomenal: its unpredictability, mysterious scenes, and humor.

I encountered a lot of swear words, and the violence is also extreme, not for sensitive readers. There are also references to homosexuality.
