Review by CYSON DOROPH -- We are Voulhire: A New Arrival...
Voulhire, a very prosperous empire, is where history's wizards and warriors are born. The empire is the envy of everyone who arrives there, that is to say, socially, economically, and politically. The sovereign of Voulhire is Wilhelm, a great leader indeed. He also has some personal weaknesses that others already know and are ready to take advantage of. A worry that has him on the edge.
The events are not dated, that is to say, the day, month, and year when the unfolding started taking place is not mentioned by the author, but the periods are talked of, for example, morning, afternoon, et cetera. For reference, the author gives information about the credible events alongside the years in which they took place. These are found within the glossary of this book. The physique, physiognomy and traits are well emphasized by the author. I did not notice a single error, that is, typing or grammar, therefore, the editing was flawless. The author gave each character a chance to express their trueself, by entitling each a chapter that fully explains who they are, a fact I loved so much. The characters also speak their mind, therefore, a number of strong terms were usually spoken here and there. That aside, I genuinely loved the plot and storyline in general. Hence, I rate the story of this book, We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz, 4 out of 4 stars.
I loved the fact that the author highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of every jurisdiction, especially Voulhire, the ambitions of each character in the story, in accordance to their roles, for example, Galen is out to learn his uncle's skills in regard to his career, King Wilhelm wants Voulhire to continue being successful, even after him but under the rule of his son, Meldorath wants to acquire and increase his magical powers, et cetera. I found the Mianora very annoying, because he publicly displayed that there were some disagreements going on between him and Wilhelm. I also found Orlin's character questionable in regard to how he attained his magical powers. Caromentis, with images that kept forming and disappearing, according to the will of one's mind, was a pleasing place to imagine and learn about. I loved Rowan, for helping his boss, the late Galen Onita, fulfill his late wish. I believe that, even though word has been spread that Meldorath is dead, he is still alive, but now, he is part of Caromentis.
The story tells us about the qualities of a good leader in reference to Wilhelm's leadership skills. The relationships tell us what goes on in the hierarchy of power. Its not good to take whatever we hear as the gospel truth, but to always search, or await, the information that has been left out. From the author's perspective, Voulhire is an evenly developed empire, where its citizens are free to take part in the various pleasures of life. People, or persons, like Wilhelm still stuck to the previous traditions, and never changed a norm or ritual that was left by predecessors of the current Voulhire. Onita never forgot about his family, therefore, worked hard so that there would be an inheritance to leave to his nephew. He readily identified the opportunity and took advantage.
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a story that tells us about what kind of people, why, when, where, and how a new era of people, and which things, have been ushered into the current state we are seeing them in, but with each kept in their hierarchy. Hence, I recommend this story to persons aged fifteen years and above who love fictitious stories that show what different people go through to get to where they are, while highlighting the ups and downs as well.
