Everyone wants to live in a progressive country with improved standards of living. However, all that glitters is not gold. Each country has both strengths and weaknesses. This is what Galen has to deal with in We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz. It is the first book in a series that will eventually consist of nine books.

Galen Bray is the protagonist in the story. Good fortune smiled on him when he learned that his uncle, Galen Onita, had chosen him to be his heir. Putting together his few belongings, he left the harsh and volatile Lands of the Princes. Life in Voulhire was new and exciting. With Rowan and Demetrius by his side, he gets to explore Voulhire and its districts. The plot expands to accommodate other well-developed characters. King Wilhelm must find a way to address the growing discontent in his kingdom, and Lord Eldus cannot afford to fail in his difficult royal assignment. These are a few of the characters that breathed life into the story.

Matthew Tysz's literary skill is quite impressive. There were no dull moments in this book. The narrative flows smoothly as one scene flows naturally to the next. Each scene has enough spice to engage the reader. For instance, Galen's travel from the Lands of the Princes to Voulhire was not uneventful. An old man regaled the travelers with interesting stories, which did not fail to capture my interest.

The narrative is simple and descriptive enough to entice one's imagination. This is what I love most about this book. The detailed description of the city of Riva Rohavi leaves no question in the mind of the reader about the security of the city and the behavior of its inhabitants. Also, the map at the opening page of the book helped me visualize the scenes and locations of specific characters in the book.

However, this book seems to be dominated by male characters. I wonder if it would make a sensational movie in this condition. This is my only dislike about this book. The narrative also contains magic and profanities.

The overall quality of this book deserves a rating of 4 out of 4 stars, and I can't give it any less. It was exceptionally well edited. There are numerous lessons to learn from this book. I learned new things about forging and human relationships. I recommend this book to lovers of suspenseful historical fiction.

Not everyone lands a good fortune the way Galen does. Thanks for the great review.

I read this book several months ago; that time, it had quite a few errors. I'm glad they have been addressed.

Tysz is an outstanding storyteller. I hope he doesn't turn out to be a modern-day Nostradamus. It would be scary to see his books come true. 😨
