We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies written by Matthew Tysz is an intriguing book steeped in a lot of magic. We are quickly introduced to this magic as Meldorath, who turned out to be a very fearsome character, led the arrest of Lord Orlin, charged for pervasion. Meldorath then takes his place as lord of Hilport, according to the demands of the people. While this war of the lords was going on, in another region, a young man's life was about to be totally transformed, as he journeyed from his war-stricken home into Voulhire to meet an aged uncle who died before his arrival. As this young man, Galen, embraced and began to learn about his new home, a lot of drama began to unfold with lots of occurrences surrounding the government of the land, the needs and cries of the people, and magic of the mages.

I found the book quite intriguing - imagine a world where you're not restricted by your physical abilities, and you can achieve difficult and even impossible feats by wielding powers. One can see through this book that there's a lot one can do with the mind. It has a very rich plot, with a wealth of characters that got me appreciating the writer's skill in merging them all together. I applaud his vivid imagination and ability to create for us in words, what only he can see in the hidden crevices of his mind. For me, it's a great introduction to what I can already see is a great series of books.

I couldn't find anything not to like about the book. Maybe I would have preferred the whole story spills in just one book, but then that would spoil the suspense, and shorten the great volume of the story. I'm already looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

I recommend this book to adventure, mystery and fantasy lovers. You would love it if you're interested in history too, as the writer takes us through a maze of events in different regions over time. If you scare easily though, or you have something against magic, especially dark magic, you may think twice about reading it.

I couldn't pick out errors in the book, it was obviously painstakingly written. I admire the expertise with which the writer did his spinning of the yarn that beautifully unravels in the course of the book. Thus I rate it 4 out of 4 stars.
