We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is the first book of a magical book series by Matthew Tysz. I am very glad I chose this amazing book to review. The story is intriguing, and I was captivated from the beginning to the end.

The greatest kingdom to remain on the earth, Voulhire is entering a golden era under a kind and sapient king. Almost every city of Voulhire was flourishing, providing riches for the kingdom. Hillport was a fishing town on the voulhirian coast, where the past politicians were failures. The town suffered under two governors who were both terrible in their own way. Lord Orlin, whose crimes were uncovered by his successor Lord Meldorath, perished in shame. Lord Meldorath commanded the Voulhirian army as a General before becoming a magistrate under Lord Orlin. He was the most powerful Mage alive in Voulhire and was honored by the whole kingdom. That honor washed away when his cruelty was exposed, and the king had to dismiss him from Hillport. What would happen when Lord Eldus, a former judge in Soulhire had to fix this broken town?

Galen Bray was an orphan who lived in misery for two decades on a war-stricken island. He lost his family at a young age but he never lost hope for a better future. That hope allowed him the strength to survive all the hardships destiny bore him. When he was called for by a long-lost relative from Voulhire, his sole hope became true. He immigrated to Voulhire, excited for a peaceful life. He was desirous for knowledge and eager to express his gratitude. His new friend Rowan takes him to explore Virko, the heart of the Voulhirian economy, where they stumbled upon some strange material. They went to Yamon Soul to get it examined by a monk. The wise monk Demetrius appreciated Galen’s good heart and agreed to help them. Galen was ecstatic because he began the journey to success. But little did he know he would be entangled in another battle too soon. Would he survive? What will be his role in this oncoming battle?

We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is a captivating science fiction that makes our fanciful imagination run wild. The author induces us to realize we can't accept anything for granted and prompts us to be thankful for what we have and cherish the ones we love. There are many unfamiliar words in this book, but the author had been thoughtful enough to include a glossary. Matthew Tysz narrates the story at a slow pace, gradually taking us to the peak of the story. By the end of the book, some mysteries are solved leaving us wondering about the rest.

The only thing I didn't enjoy about this book was the complicated and long sentences. The author has also chosen to use many unusual words, which makes the book a little hard to comprehend. I had to use the dictionary multiple times and reread some parts to grasp them properly, but the mind-blowing storyline compensates for all the trouble.

I give We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies 4 out of 4 stars. There were no errors that I detected, and the book seems to have been professionally edited. The storyline is hypnotizing, and I keenly enjoyed this book. Therefore, I think this outstanding science fiction deserves this rating.

I recommend this book to adults and older teenagers who enjoy science fiction, magic and historical novels. This book mentions sexual harassment against children (nothing graphical or descriptive). There are few profane words, sexual innuendos (both heterosexual and homosexual) and vivid fighting scenes in this book. Readers who are sensitive about such content should read this book with caution.
