Review by jeff odongo -- We are Voulhire: A New Arrival ...
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a Fictional book that is full of actions and thrills. This book is told by switching perspectives between different characters. The Kingdom Voulhire has grown and become prosperous because of the previous leaders and their new King Wilhelm Arcolo. The King is determined to see the Kingdom grow more prosperous but Hill port is suffering due to poor leadership by the previous Lords. This makes the Kings’ heart weary as he could not understand why the capital Soulhire would grow so fast yet Hill port was plagued by Poverty and fear.
The previous Lords’, Lord Orlin and Dalehei Meldorath did nothing to see the town grow but were more focused on understanding magic and using magic to control events and people. Fear in Hill port is so profound that people think that there is nothing good that can come into their town. Hence the King Decides to send Lord Eldus Alderman who was formerly a Judge in Soulhire, who was known for his “cool fairness” which made him be selected to be the Lord of Hill port to bring prosperity to the shantytown of Hill port.
Another character in the plot is Galen Bray from the Lands of the Princes, which was plagued by senseless wars for a long period. Galen has found the opportunity to travel to the city of Magnum Caelum in Voulhire to be a blacksmith that was once owned by his uncle whom he knew little about. This gets him to meet up with his executor Rowan who describes to him the details of his dying uncles’ wish. It is through these journeys that the book explains different events in each character.
This book would put any fictional book reader engrossed as the plot flowed seamlessly. The plot was rich and action-filled. I enjoyed the author's writing style which kept me glued to every page of the book. There is a lot of actions that are well explained. Any reader of this book will be engrossed by how all the characters play a role in defining the theme of the book. It’s a book I would love to read all its series with much excitement.
The only issue I had with the book was that some characters were not given enough attention especially Beth from the world of Caromentis. Her story came from nowhere this in my view could confuse some readers.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The plot was rich and action-packed, and the characters were wonderfully developed. I would recommend this novel to fans of fantasy magic and adventure, especially those who are looking for a fresh and unique take on the genre.
