The book’s genre was part fantasy but it still managed to reflect well the realities of a non-fiction world with the elaborations on city governance. It was hard to get a grasp of the situation in the first parts but this only made the work more intriguing to follow. The story effectively represented the title, We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, as it managed to lay out a background for the series to follow. Multiple conflicts were left unsolved which was sufficient enough to question what will happen next.

The map at the beginning of the book aided in forming a representation of the place. Although the environment was different from the one we're living in, the issues that were being tackled in the area made the narrative more relatable. Matthew Tysz’s multiverse offered a great depiction of fantasy with real-life problems that don't only focus on the magical but also on the concern of citizens. It helped give life to the unnamed characters that also exist in the story regardless of the lack of focus on them.

I was in awe of the conversations that the main characters would have because their relevance is also applicable to our society. My comprehension of the situation of their place deepened as I continued with the story. It did not seem like they were in a modern era when it comes to science and industry. However, their social concerns and approach to handling problems were not primitive. It was one of the things that I liked about the story. Although the place offered unfamiliarity, it eventually became relatable amidst the differences in culture.

The work deserves a four out of four rating because of its characters, and twists that were applied outside the main plot. There were some vulgar words but these only gave color to the various personalities and helped better illustrate the world of Voulhire. Some expectations from the story were exceeded as it gave a role-playing vibe with the mages and warriors while being able to discuss societal issues. In that sense, technicalities didn’t come off as boring since it was accompanied by fantasy making it appear enjoyable.

Anyone who likes role-playing games would appreciate this book. On the other hand, I think that it would also be good to recommend this to people who’re interested in politics and governance. The book has so much to offer from fantasy, leadership, to knowing personalities given the characters’ differences in motivation and origin. Reading this will make you think of our world as you relate it to Voulhire and its people.
