Review by lumenchristi -- We are Voulhire: A New Arrival...
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies is the first of nine series that starts the adventure of Galen Bary in the land of Voulhire. A land of modern civilization, prosperity and great opportunities.
Galen is from the Lands of the Princes. A land that was ravaged by war right from the time he was little. And now, after 20 years, the battle of the Princes was nowhere near ending. Galen was rescued from the Lands of the Princes by Rowan; an executor paid heavily by Galen’s uncle. Galen Onita, the uncle of Galen Bary, was a great blacksmith who had a successful business in Magnum Caelum, a town in Voulhire. As prosperous as Voulhire is, many dark horses caused unrest and looked for its downfall. One of them is an outcast community called Ravi Rohavi. They have been a lifelong enemy of Voulhire.
I admire the writing prowess of Matthew Tysz, the author of this series. He did a great job in developing the characters and in the gradual build-up of the country of Voulhire. He was careful enough to make the characters distinct and unique in their roles. His descriptive writing is great, so much so that you can easily find yourself imagining the scenes vividly and immersing yourself in the world he created.
His style of writing is also unique. He mixes the first-person narration with third-person narration. This style of writing, in my opinion, displays the writing prowess of the author. The provision of the map and a reference guide also ensures the readers have a complete understanding of the book and the unique country of Voulhire. The characters I love so much are Eldus Alderman and Rowan. I love the way Eldus governs the city of Hillport as a man of integrity and foresight. I always look forward to reading the Galen narrative because of Rowan who was a man of knowledge balanced with humour. His character often makes me smile during my reading. There is one thing that excited me most. It was the operation principle of the telemage. On reading that part of the book, I gave utmost respect to Matthew. Although there are many loose ends in this story, it is typical of a series so it is hardly a major concern.
The book was well edited because I found no error throughout the book, and as a result, I will say it is exceptionally well edited. Hence, I will rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I have no reason to dislike anything about it.
I will recommend this book to all lovers of sci-fi and magic thrillers. They are going to enjoy every bit of it. I, for one, am looking forward to picking up the next in the series.
