Review by Mamakachi1 -- We are Voulhire: A New Arrival u...
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is the first book in an on going series. It introduces Galen, who is extremely fortunate to escape from the Lands of the Princes to a distant land to claim an inheritance that has been bequeathed to him by a long-lost uncle. Galen was more than grateful to finally leave at the invitation of his uncle living at Magnum Caelum as the Lands of Princes had been at war for over 20 years.
After days of travel, Galen arrives in the city of Magnum Caelum, pleasantly surprised to discover that the citizens live a peaceful, prosperous, and content life. The author, Matthew Tysz, introduces more characters. The King of Voulhire strives to protect his people and assure them of their safety and wellbeing in the face of impending danger. The new Lord of Hillport, Lord Eldus, is expected to warm his way into the heart of the citizens as they try to recover from the trauma, pain, and disappointment they suffered in the hands of the last Lord and his predecessor.
I loved reading this book because each character was well developed, and the plot was fantastic. The book was written from Galen’s view and a third person’s view when reports of other people and events were being narrated. I loved that the book showed how quickly people’s lives change for good or for the worse. Galen’s life changed drastically after he was sought out by his uncle. Likewise, the lives of the citizens of Hillport took a negative turn after they were ruled by two terrible leaders in quick succession.
This book was well written, and I found that there is nothing I disliked about it. Although there were a few errors and misused capitalization, it was not enough to mar my reading experience.
I will rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it was professionally edited, and the storyline was engaging. This book has indicated that subsequent books in this series will be a delight to read. I look forward to reading subsequent sequels in the We Are Voulhire series as this first book was interesting, and held my interest.
I would recommend this book to lovers of adventure, magic, and fiction. However, I will not recommend this book to young people or sensitive readers because there were some depictions of bloody and gory acts. Also, there were sexual inferences that would not be age-appropriate for younger readers.
