Review by Barbie_sidhu -- Fish Wielder
This book is stacked with entertainment and humor. The dialogue is the best thing about it. Fish Wielder by J.R.R.R (Jim) Hardison is the silliest fictional novel one can ever read. It is a high fantasy set in the mystical World of Grome. Our chief character is a human who is known as Thoral Mighty Fist.
The World of Grome is colonized by different creatures like talking animals, wizards, elves, etc. The only human in this world is our main character, Thoral. He is a fighter in its true sense, but his past is something he feels incapable to resist. He has a talking fish as his companion. He carries a magical sword, which makes him a true warrior. Thoral faces new life-threatening adventures every day, but his ultimate aim is to save the world by exposing and defeating The Bad Religion. The only way to achieve this is by preventing the villain from consuming a magical pudding that controls a very evil and strong bracelet. Thoral’s journey through this whole adventure is complicated and funny. He meets some new and some old friends on his mission to protect Grome; they together called themselves the fellowship of the pudding. The story does not exactly follow a single plotline, but it is a series of unpredictable adventures ultimately leading to a completed storyline.
The book is a piece of incredibly high imagination. Some of the things described in the book were strange to imagine, but they didn't affect my reading experience. The events take place at an accelerated pace. There are jaw-dropping turns and twists, along with vividly written action.
The best thing about the book is its dialogue. Some of the words and phrases used by the author add good flavor to the story. For example, Thoral calls almost everything that happens in his life a “mayhap.” The humor and its timing are perfect. It is an enjoyable read. I also like the enigmatic relationship between Thoral and Brad, his companion fish. Their friendship takes the reading experience to a different level. To be honest, there is nothing in the book I did not like. I could not spot anything that bothered my reading experience.
The book is professionally edited, as I could not spot any noticeable typos or errors. The language is simple and fluent as well. Also, it is narrated in the third person.
On the whole, I will gladly rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars read. It is a perfect book in its own sense. It has unpredictable adventure and humor. Action blended with comedy is always a delight to read. Hence, the perfect rating.
I would recommend this book to teenagers and adults who love reading adventures laced with action. I also feel that people who like to read comic books should also give it a read, as the action in the book gave me comic-book vibes. The book is perfect for lovers of high fantasies as well. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did.
