What can anyone tell me about THE FOREVER WAR?

I just started reading the novel THE FOREVER WAR by Joe Haldeman, what seems to be best described as a Vietnam novel set in futuristic outser space. I'm only a couple of chapters in, but it seems like a tough and good read. What can anyone tell me about this book? And I don't mind spoilers, as they don't typically hinder my reading experience. Thanks.
