Usually classic fantasy, but I don't rule out the other. I've enjoyed a lot of both.

It's funny, when I was a teenager I loved fantasy and couldn't quite get my teeth stuck into most scifi but as Ive gotten older I've had a complete switch. Now I find it hard to enjoy real dragons and warriors fantasy. Still love magic though.

I think I agree with JobClass, much in the same way that Labyrinth (classic 80s movie with David Bowie) ends, books, to me, have a certain "If you need us..." aspect to them that means I will often return to a book or series, not just because I enjoyed it but because it was safe.

Classic fantasy almost always feels safer than sci-fi, at least as far as books go, probably because you're less likely to end up being shot at with scary as hell guns. I know that swords and sorcery are probably more brutal in actuality, but you are less likely to end up reading about planet-killing weapons in a classic fantasy book!

My favourite go to book has to be Thief of Time by Terry Pratchett, but for epic good overcoming evil it's Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time hands down.

Wow! This is a tough choice...
A lot depends on the character development and how they interact.

As long the story is imaginative, I don't care what fantasy it is. For me the best fantasy is one that inspires me and makes me think "Whoa! I never thought such a place / thing was even possible"

i also like when they take a classic fantasy tale and have it be based in our time.

I read both genres, as both are some of my favorites! I go in phases where I might read more classic fantasy for a while, or more Sci-fi for a while. For me, it’s too hard to choose one over the other. It definitely just depends what I am in the mood to read!

Classic fantasy (mostly), because I don´t like sci-fi too much. But Tuf´s Voyage, that was something. :)

I enjoy reading both, but typically I prefer Classic Fantasy. For me they represent different moods, so it depends on what mood I’m in.
