Review by Snowy_Dissanayaka -- We are Voulhire: The Fire...
We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko is the second book of the We are Voulhire book series by Matthew Tysz. Just like the first one of the series, this marvelous book is also full of mind-blowing twists and turns.
The great city of Virko is in its prime, unlike its beloved founder and lord, Venden Hrelek. Lord Venden’s health is swiftly deteriorating, making the destiny of Virko uncertain. Either his son Hans will become the new lord or the noble sovereignty in Virko will be buried with Lord Venden. The dying lord wished for the latter, much to the displeasure of the nobles of Virko. Would quiet and calm Hans remain that way when his rightful lordship is slipping away?
Galen Brey, the newly appointed blacksmith of Magnum Caelum, has to visit Virko to ensure his new job. His friends, Rowan and Demetrius, accompany him to Virko, but their priority changes once they reached the city. For sure, Virko wasn’t the brightest place given the ashy smoke that billowed from its numerous factories. But Demetrius could feel another eerie darkness lurking upon his old home and he is honor-bound as a monk to dispel that presence from the city. With the help of his friends, Demetrius uncovered a dangerous path to save Virko, on which he would be on his own. Would he be strong enough to stand up on his own?
Meanwhile, Lord Meldorath is biding his time for his next move. His intentions are still unclear, but his cruelty is well displayed in this book.
We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko is a fascinating and complicated science fiction, written with great care and precision. The author grasps both the grim and pleasant sides of the human mind, in a way that never ceases to amaze me. Even if this is a work of fiction, the emotions and feelings in this book are very real, and I often found myself lost in them. Besides the brilliant storyline, this book describes nature in ways I never imagined to exist. Matthew Tysz recounts the story in a slow stride, allowing us to enjoy everything about the book. I also find the author’s classical writing style, in which the book is suitably written, very soothing.
There was nothing that I disliked about this book, despite the very few minor mistakes that I came across. The book seems to be professionally edited, and I rate We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko 4 out of 4 stars. It was a pure pleasure to leaf through this book, and with amazingly clever plots and twists, I think this book deserves this rating.
In my opinion, this book is best for a mature audience who enjoy science fiction and historical novels. There are graphically descriptive violent scenes, mentions of sexual assaults, and crude sexual innuendos (both heterosexual and homosexual) in this book. So, if you are uncomfortable with such content, read the book with caution.
