This is the second book in the series known as We are Voulhire. After reading the first book, I was convinced to move on to the next one. Just like the first one, this book also brings together magic and power with everyone trying to climb to the top of the ladder through any means possible.

Mathew Tysz managed to bring out a different understanding of magic in the book We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko. Virko is a city in Voulhire known for being the most industrious. Lord Venden founded Virko from just one manor and a wasteland. Galen, Rowan and Demetrius travel from Magnum Caelum to Virko to ask Lord Venden for iron supplies. They end up finding more than they bargained for. Demetrius, a monk, feels a dark presence over Lord Venden Hrelek's manor. The trio finds out that Lord Venden has a son who uncovered darkness bound to their manor's undercroft. The story spins around this darkness and as it is released, Virko gets to pay the price.

What I liked most about this book is that it had a smooth continuation from the first book. Virko had already been mentioned in the first book as an industrious city and it felt good to finally get to "see" Virko. I also loved how the story always had me waiting for the next part. Each chapter had something exciting that happened and it made the book more enjoyable as I continued reading. I liked how the author divided the chapters by giving them a heading of a place or person. This is one of the things I liked about the first book too. I also liked how the author ended this book. I felt so disappointed when I scrolled down only to find I was at the end. I can not wait to find out what the next book brings.

What I disliked about the book is how it left some questions from the first book unanswered. Some occurrences in the first story left me in suspense. I hoped this book would shed some light on them but it didn't. I hope in the other books some of the suspense left from the first book can be dealt with. This was the only thing I disliked about the book.

I rate the book four out of four stars. I have given the book a perfect rating because I found it to have been well published and edited. The author did a good job of proofreading the book. I have not given it a lower rating because the story itself was also very satisfactory.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes fiction, fantasy and adventure. Galen, Rowan and Demetrius are on a long and eventful adventure. There are also fictional creatures like demons with powers. The book has gore so I would not recommend it to anyone who is against violence. Some people are cut up and terrible things happen which are well detailed throughout the story.
