The first book in the We are Voulhire series left me extremely excited for the second installment; We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko. Here we are introduced to the heart of Voulherian industry; Virko.
But it all really starts with Vender Hrelek; a wealthy foreigner that discovered the Rendenhide house and purchased it with a plan to start a business with minimal competition. Twenty five years later; he was the Lord of the most productive city in Voulhire and widely concluded to be one of the fathers of the nations golden age.

Galen, Rowan and Demetrius arrive in this great town to arrange for iron since Magnum Caelum did not have iron reserves of its own, and hence they meet Lord Venden Hrelek. This encounter leads to a shocking discovery in the undercroft at the Rendenhide mansion that turns a simple business trip into a quest.

Lord Hrelek though ill, is in the process of making Virko the first capitalist state in Voulhire. However his son; Hans Hrelek also known as Folcro, has mischievous plans that will be a problem during the transition of Virko. Meanwhile Lord Meldorath sets his plan of becoming the next Eiodi into motion.

I love the unpredictable plot twists that keeps the reader at the edge of their seats until the end and the detailed description of the scene sites, culture, expressions and clothing successfully makes the readers virtually and imaginatively experience the realm of Voulhire.

Matthew Tysz introduces us to phenomenal characters such as Lord Kayden, Michael Mendus, Folcro and Sasha Gadesh. The author makes them relatable and believable with individual background stories and the different roles they play.

The book was well - edited and the author shows great story telling abilities with how the characters and events visually come to life, I give this book 4 out of 4 stars because I really enjoyed it and I am exited for the next book in the series.

Overall, it's a perfect read for Sci-fi, fantasy enthusiasts and I recommend a mature audience because of profanity, the dealing with demons and the mention of sensitive topics such as rape and homosexuality.
