Voulhire is a kingdom of magic, science, and brave knights. It is a kingdom where you can be extremely rich or extremely poor if you wish. It is a kingdom that offers great promise and power to those who seek them. It is to this kingdom that the young and innocent Galen Bray is brought by boat in the dead of night. Here, he must create a new life for himself. This is his chance to forget the war and death that he has lived through all his life and he must take over the forge that his late uncle left him. But it happens to be the case that he is not destined to live the boring and prosperous life of a small-town blacksmith.

This he finds out when his search for the popular white iron used by the Mianoran knights turns into a discovery of a weird substance. This discovery launches him on a new path in life for he must uncover the secrets that said substance holds. This discovery also brings him a new friend and leads him to discover the evil that is hibernating and waiting for the right time to attack the peaceful kingdom of Voulhire.

We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies written by Matthew Tysz is the first book in the magic fantasy series that goes by the name We Are Voulhire. The author expertly married magic, science, and adventure in this piece in a way that made putting down this book a difficult task. Although this particular book lacks the action or climax that is expected in books like this, the conversations and description of events made it a truly interesting read.

I like everything about the book, but the highlight of the book for me is the way it was narrated. Matthew Tysz used both the first-person point of view (for Galen) and the third-person point of view (for the rest of the characters) to tell of the events that happened in Voulhire at the time. The first-person POV helped me connect on a personal level with Galen. It helped me see Voulhire through his eyes and mind. I got to know (and even feel) his doubts, excitement, and fear for myself. This made him my favorite character. The third-person POV employed helped me see things and events from a more general perspective.

If I could give this book a 5-star review, I would, but because 4 is the highest I am allowed to award, I hereby give this wonderful book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I found the book to be very interesting, refreshing, and easy to read and understand. To my mind, it was perfectly and professionally edited. The plot is one that I would like to follow till the end. That is why I would grab the second book in the series once I see it. If you are a lover of sci-fi or magic-filled novels, like me, then I am one hundred percent convinced that you will like [/i]We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies[/i].
