Review by ILikeBigBooks -- We are Voulhire: A New Arriva...
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, by Matthew Tysz starts in the war-ravaged Lands of the Princes, where the king’s four sons are in the midst of a civil war, fighting for power of the kingdom. Fortunately, Galen Bray has received a way out of these forsaken lands. When his uncle, who Galen never knew, passes away and gives his estate to Galen, the young man is able to escape from the Lands of the Princes and go to Voulhire. At the same time, however, rumors are spreading that a terrible wizard, called Meldorath, is still alive and imprisoned, rather than dead as they have been told for so long. Jump into the terrible Lands of the Princes and the serene Voulhire, you won’t regret the journey.
My favorite thing about this book is that Tysz was able to paint a vivid and detailed description of the lands without taking you out of the story. Rather than having pages and pages of descriptors and explanations of the land, we learned what the kingdoms were like as the characters did. He didn’t just tell us what Magnum Caelum, the town Galen ends up in, was like, we experienced it as Galen did. It is not often that an author can create a land like this, but Tysz did it perfectly.
I truly have no complaints about this book. It was expertly written and enticing to read. Tysz keeps us on the edge of our seat as we read, and is even able to keep us involved in the story when jumping between the multiple storylines. It is rare to read a book with so many plot lines that is able to still flow understandably, but Matthew Tysz mastered it phenomenally. This book was exceptionally well-edited and I absolutely loved reading We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies.
I, without a doubt, would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Even from the first page of the book I was already fascinated with the story and didn’t want to stop reading. Had the writing style not been so unique and if the story didn’t have such a good plot, I would have rated it lower, but this book was phenomenal and I have absolutely no complaints about it.
I would recommend this book for any young adult or adult reader who loves thrilling books and great stories. It does have some sexual content, a few gory scenes, and mild profanity, however, so I wouldn’t recommend it for younger readers, but the amazing plot development of this book is one that every reader needs to experience.
