Review by Adam Montell -- Growth by Jon Pulli
It heals! it saves! but most importantly... It's a threat to national security?
A new product has unexpectedly taken the market by storm. Impatient consumers surge in swarms to get their hands on the latest popular (and expensive) drink of the century. Lifio. There's never been anything like it. While its flavor is questionable, its effects are explicable. Erasing nearly all human ailments and replacing pain with joy and happiness. Human life expectancy has now superseded all expectations and the fear of death is non-existent. As the owners of lifio barrel through the market, bulldozing over competition, they unknowingly catch the eye of a few skeptical FDA agents, who are concerned that Lifio could potentially be harmful. Tensions rise high as both sides fight to either keep Lifio in the market or ban the product completely.
Growth by Jon Pulli is a suspenseful science fiction novel picturing a world where all human ailments are eradicated by a powerful drink known as Lifio. Pulli paints a picture of a few likely scenarios according to how humanity would react with a drink such as Lifio, expertly including science, business, and politics, he covers the diversity of our civilization regarding a drink that works wonders like a forbidden medicine.
What I truly appreciate about this pulchritudinous piece of art, is how Pulli skillfully brushed together business, politics, and science together, showing the readers how intertwined these three seemingly different subjects are in the modern world. All the while insinuating a sci-fi factor into a realistic truth. I also couldn't help but admire how the author writes the story through different perspectives, revealing the other sides of a big picture we otherwise would have missed.
Unfortunately, there was a factor in Growth I absolutely abhorred! It was the crushing fact that it ended! But so does all great works. Disregarding the few small mistakes that almost went unregistered, there isn't much I can say about not loving this book, I will be placing it amongst the books I cherish.
Overall, I undoubtedly rate Growth a 4 out of 4 stars. The style is simply magnificent, fully immersing the reader into a highly detailed world, giving you the convenience of reading minus the anxiety of trying to understand what's happening within a setting. It's evident that the author spent a great deal of time and effort to piece together a work that will reverberate within my conscience for years to come.
With a teaspoon of sexual content and a small ounce of swearing, I highly recommend this book to a mature group audience who love the thrill of a SciFi that, once the reader finishes, immediately places their phone/book down to reel in their emotions that are racing 100 mph out of control. Then subsequently piece together all the information the author placed within the story.
