Galen, Demetrius, and Rowan have traveled to Chalethire to search for help in Virko. Each one of the trio has discovered a unique path within the militant city. Rowan has started training with the knights and paladins. Amidst the sparring parties, he seems to have gained some attention from the knights regarding his melee and bow skills. Galen has begun training with the blacksmiths in town. He is desperately trying to gain as much knowledge about forging as possible. Galen caught the eye of the paladins amid his academic process. They discovered Galen alone in the forge during an inspection. These two are not alone in their quest for education. Demetrius has embarked on his journey with the monks. The Knights of Chalethire are rumored to have been trained by the Order of Joshua. A faction of monks Demetrius is extremely interested in learning more about because he feels they may be able to aid him in his magical abilities.

The trio ultimately finds themselves in league with a faction of the knights. Elmira, the ruler of Chalethire, is curious as to what is happening in the town of Cridaea. He has conveyed an offer to join Chalethire. In return, he will give them supplies and protection against the Riva. Galen, Demetrius, and Rowan accompany Paladin Harper and her squad to Cridaea to elicit a favorable response. They find some surprises upon their arrival. Once the business in Cridaea is completed, the trio comes clean about what has been happening in Virko. Paladin Harper agrees to a small “research” party to see if the three are spewing lies or truth. What will happen when the party arrives in Virko? I am not prone to conveying spoilers, so you will have to pore over the book to get the answers. All I will state on the matter is to be prepared for some seriously shocking moments.

We are Voulhire: Knights of Chalethire by Matthew Tysz is the fourth installment to Tysz’s Voulhire series. Once more, the author displays his versatility for language as he invites us on yet another adventure featuring our fantastic trio of friends. Tysz takes his time in this book by introducing us to some creative characters. He has developed them well. The man remains a phenomenal writer and it shows in spades throughout this most recent adventure.

One of my favorite characters introduced is Paladin Harper. As one of the commanders in the army consisting of the Knights of Chalethire, she is formidable. As a paladin, Harper has been trained in both melee and magic. We discover familiar ground with her when Prince Darius wanders into Chalethire, and get a glimpse of how they know one another. I enjoyed the fact that the author introduced a dynamic female character into the storyline. Until now, it has been male-dominated. Paladin Harper represents a strong-willed individual with plans of her own. She is a leader among a wave of male knights and paladins. However, her most eloquent feature is how fast she takes to Galen. He is smitten from the start, but we see her warm up to Galen later. But is her demeanor genuine?

My only dislike is not a dislike so to speak, but there are many characters in this particular installment. The author jumps around quite a bit. We observe more characters in the first-person role than previously. In earlier installments, we frequently see Galen hold the tale alone. Next, we were introduced to Meldorath, Demetrius, and Rowan assuming the role. I like being able to see firsthand what the characters are thinking and their motives. However, there were times it became a little harder to keep up with what character had the first-person account.

I recommend The Voulhire series to all readers interested in magic, adventure, friendship, and Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels. The series is easy to fall into and constantly leaves me craving more. I do not recommend the series to anyone disliking foul language, sexual insinuations, lude comments, demonic undertones, or graphic violence. Because of the nature of the series, I would recommend the book to a more mature audience of readers. We are Voulhire: Knights of Chalethire deserves a 4 out of 4 star rating due to the extraordinary writing and storyline. The book was professionally revised as I discovered no errors. I am enthralled by this series. I invite you all to join the adventure. If you are a fan of Fantasy/Sci-Fi novels, you will not be disappointed.
