We Are Voulhire; A new Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is the first installment in the book series and this mythical land of legend. It focuses mainly on our titular hero named Galen Bray and his journey from the war-torn land of the princes to Magnaem Caelum. His optimism sets him apart from the others, as it is a way to escape the perils of his home. His late uncle facilitates his journey and an executor named Rowan. He is awe-struck by what he sees, as someone who has known only war; he finds this change of scenery very refreshing.

This land is not all as it proclaimed to be, as troublesome situations are brewing all over Voulhire, as he would soon come to realize. The biggest threats are that of the Riva rohavi and the infamous mage Dalehei Meldorath. However, this does little to influence his perception of this land, which seems like salvation from his tumultuous homeland. It also delves into the inner workings of the kingdom from the king to the lords of the different towns who are charged with their development. one, in particular, Lord Eldus is appointed to this particular town called Hillport to govern but he encounters myriads of obstacles on this seemingly herculean endeavor.

The thing I liked most about the book was how the author told and introduced the various characters in the book. His accurate description and depiction help the reader paint a vivid picture of the happenings throughout Voulhire. However, I disliked some things about the story. Some characters are not integral to the book, which makes it drag on and put it at risk of losing the effect desired by the author. Overall, it was a well-written piece that is both intriguing and captivating from cover to cover.

The book was professionally edited, making the read more enjoyable and easier to understand, but there were instances of profanity throughout the story. This, in turn, makes it suitable for adult readers seeking an adventure-filled piece full of magic and wonder. The book does not tackle any religious tropes but tries to expand on the cosmos and how we perceive our existence. Therefore, it is not offensive to anyone's religious beliefs. The author did check all my boxes of what a story should be, due to all these factors I can confidently rate this captivating book four out of four stars.
