Review by Birds Are Real -- We are Voulhire: A New Arriv...
We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies, the third book in the We Are Voulhire series, is a book that tells the story of the Kingdom of Voulhire and the escapades of citizens and residents. One of such residents is Galen Bray, a 29-year-old man whose uncle’s death brought him to this kingdom. Looking to forget his past filled with memories of suffering and death in the Islands of the Princes, he decides to create a new life for himself in this kingdom. He promises to do all that he can. While Galen and Rowan, his friend, are going about their business, Lord Meldorath is bidding his time. He is patiently waiting for the perfect day to announce his feared existence to the whole of Voulhire.
Magic, war, hatred, death, and politics, are the themes that We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies focuses on. Being the first book out of nine in the We Are Voulhire series, it lays the foundation for all that is to come and happen in the kingdom of Voulhire. Because it acts as a mere foundation setter, it is lacking in conflict and climax that characterizes many novels out there. The only scenes that contained serious conflict are the one where Lord Meldorath arrested the Lord of Hillport, and where Brawler and his host of Riva soldiers attacked the same Hillport. Apart from these two that lasted for only a couple of paragraphs, the book focused on developing the characters and throwing light on the backstories of some of these characters. The point above is not a bad thing. This feature is very important if the series is to be a success. I only highlighted that to tell you what to expect in the book.
One other thing that I fell in love with is the way the author alternates between the first-person and the third-person perspective narratives. This gave the book a sort of uniqueness from its counterparts out. Even though I like the use of both narratives, my favorite is Galen’s own account of the things he saw and did in Voulhire. Galen is the kind of man that you will call innocent. His good heart endears him to my heart and that of many readers out there. I enjoyed reading about his experience and seeing things through his eyes. Another reason why I like his perspective so much is because of the giggles I got from Rowan’s conversation with those around him.
That said, wholehearted and without reservation, I rate this book four out of four stars. I do this because I liked everything that Matthew Tysz puts in this book. I did not see any word, error, mistake, or thing to hate in the book. That said, apart from being very entertaining and entertaining, the author did well to have this book edited professionally.
I believe that you will like We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies if you like reading books about adventure and epic fantasy. However, I recommend this book to a mature audience because of the profanities and strong words that are in the book.
