Voulhire is home to the greatest mages and warriors that the world has ever seen. In this kingdom, although magic and warfare have become things that can be attributed to its people, science is also wholehearted embraced. All of these qualities, including the relative peace enjoyed by its residents, make Voulhire a place that most people would love to grow up in. Despite enjoying the luxury of success and peace, some will love nothing more than to watch this kingdom perish. And so they plot, scheme, and hope to destroy what past kings and queens have built. These people are known as the Riva Rohavi.

Whilst all these scheming is going on, Galen Bray arrives at the shores of Magnum Caelum, a small city in the kingdom of Voulhire. Having just escaped one of the Lands of the Princes, his home country, he believes that he has been given a second chance at life. He plans on making good use of the opportunities that abound in this kingdom to create a peaceful and comfortable life for himself. His quest for white iron sets him on a part of the adventure and strange discoveries whose end he will get to find out much later in the We Are Voulhire series.

We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies serves as an opening script for books to come in the We Are Voulhire series. This novel is written by Matthew Tysz, a man who is widely known for his brilliant and engaging writing skills in the fantasy genre. Although this book can be said to fall into the epic fantasy genre, it can also be classified as a science-fiction novel filled with magic and knights.

There is a lot to like about this novel. One of the features that I liked most is how engaging the plot was. Although the story flowed at a steady pace and was almost devoid of conflict, I enjoyed reading the conversions had by the characters. These conversations gave me an insight into what kind of person the mysterious Meldorath was. Although I was told why he was feared so much (other than the fact that he is a very powerful mage), I was able to get a little information on his history. The conversations also gave me an insight into the minds of those that control the Riva Rohavi. It made me understand, to an extent, why the Riva was bent on destroying Voulhire. Their backstory almost made me empathize with them and their plight.

One other thing that I like about the book is the humor that was infused in it by Rowan. Rowan is the executor of the estate of Galen’s deceased uncle. He is the one that went looking for Galen and that gave him a shot at a second life of peace and prosperity. I got to find out that he is more than just a finance man from a well-to-do family. He is also a very annoying man who thinks too highly of himself. Although this is not a feature that is envied in a person, he makes up for his character flaw by being very witty and funny. He made reading this novel very fun for me.

Generally, I did not hate anything about the book. The author had my attention from the first page and his beautiful writing kept me reading till the last. I also did not see any errors while reading this. Therefore, I can say that the novel was perfected edited. Thus, I rate We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies 4 out of 4. I also recommend this novel to readers who enjoy books on fantasy, sci-fi, and adventure.
