Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
The book We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is the first book of the series We are Voulhire by Matthew Tysz. This is a fictional and fantasy novel. In the series of books, the author takes us on a journey in the kingdom of Voulhire. The kingdom of Voulhire is very prosperous at the time. In the book, there are super-human beings called Mages, people with extraordinary powers. There were various headed by lords.
Galen, one of the sons of a great emperor, is fleeing his country because of war. He is on a boat heading to the land of Voulhire having no idea of what awaits him. The boat he is on has many people traveling to other places for different reasons. Galen’s Uncle dies and since he had no children, they look for a Galen, the close relative to inherit his businesses. At the time, there is political tension throughout the land. He goes to Magnum to inherit the business but the question remains, will he be able to succeed in the business amid all the political tension in the land?
What I liked most about the book was the point of view the author uses in telling the story. He uses different characters to tell it and this lets us see the wider picture of the whole story. I also liked the map that the author has placed at the beginning of the book. It helped me understand better the geographical landscape of the book. The book is very engaging and once you start reading it, you will be curious to know what will happen next. The author has also used vivid descriptions very nicely. This makes us create mental images and with the help of the map, we can place the images into their correct contexts.
What I did not like about the book was the fact that there were people with superpowers and people with extra-human activities for me; I am not a very good fan of them.
I would give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. While reading the book, I found no spelling or grammatical errors hence I would say the book was professionally edited. The story also is engaging reading from the start. This novel contains several aspects of profanity. I would recommend this book to adults who love fictional novels and also to those who love a series of books.
