Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
In a war-stricken land, where madness spreads its veil on innocent people, taking lives and instilling fear, a man grips onto a thread of hope. Galen Bray escapes the cruel homeland he once knew and loved, to the southern coast of Voulhire, a great kingdom that has risen into a new age. In the small town, he finds friends and with their help, he intends to learn how to forge to keep his uncle's steel forge running and to know more about this kingdom he's fallen in love with. Will he achieve what he dreams of?
In another town, Hillport, Eldus is selected to lift the fog of distress and fear left by the previous lord, Meldorath. Eldus begins his task enthusiastically, helping each individual mend their heart, and tries to regain the trust that was once given unconditionally, but soon realizes that he may have underestimated the influence Meldorath holds over the minds of his people. Is he truly dead? Can they truly be in peace?
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tyez raises the iron gates to a whole new world of fantasy and adventure. With nobles, citizens, mages and rebels each taking up the pages and filling each chapter with different and unique perspectives, Matthew Tyez shows a great potential of each character's depth and thrills the reader enough to make them never want to take their thoughts off the book.
I appreciate the details of each scene, it contributes greatly to the emotions and interactions behind it. I don't believe there to be a main character, for each individual mentioned is intriguing and complex enough to be one. I quite enjoy Galen's naive nature, as well as his background story which explains the curious behaviour he's adapted. However, my favourite would be Eldus who tries to grow the small town into something much bigger and dedicates his whole into the works. Lord Meldorath's intentions behind his actions also makes one intrigued.
There were no negative aspects. I love the book as it is, it's an excellent prologue and I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I give this book 4 out of 4 stars and I feel it deserves much more. Portraying hatred, fear, love, determination and ambitions perfectly and creating the most realistic characters, Matthew Tyez has become one of my favourite authors with his work. I couldn't find any errors. The book was exceptionally well-edited, adding on to the reading experience. I recommend the book to fantasy lovers and addicts, except perhaps children because of the profanities and slight sexual words included in the story.
