Review of Fish Wielder
Thoral Mighty Fist is the mightiest hero to ever wield a fist. He’s bold, daring, charming, strong, unnaturally handsome, and everything a hero ought to be. When adventure calls, he answers, and adventure trembles. Together with his best friend Brad, and his noble steed Warlordhorse, bad guys don’t stand a chance. They might try, but they really don’t stand a chance. I mean really.
An immortal, the Bad Religion, the Heartless One, a flying squirrel, and a sinister pudding. Thoral Mighty Fist must find a way to overcome them all. He will do so using his mighty fists, and the magic sword, Blurmflard, lent to him by his wizard mentor, Yiz.
Fish Wielder is hilarious in all the right places. If you’re someone who enjoys cliché fantasy tropes with a splash of dictionary definitions, then this book is for you. There are so many fun moments, it’s impossible to have a favourite. J.R.R.R (Jim) Hardison has created a masterpiece. You’ll catch yourself laughing out loud from start to finish in this work of written genius.
I don’t know if I have the words to describe how fantastic this book is. What’s the word used when something narrates the deeds and adventures of a heroic or legendary figure? Ah, yes. Epic. That’s a great word to use for Fish Wielder. There’s also another word used, if I remember correctly, when something is extremely impressive or daunting. Awesome. Yes, that word also fits the bill. To put them together, this book is epically awesome, or awesomely epic. I’ll leave it up to you to decide.
From the first moments at its beginning, this book had me laughing like crazy right until the final moments at its end. I even had my family laughing at me because I was laughing so much. Every scenario was executed in a flawless mix of action and dialogue. I was watching everything unfold in vivid detail as Thoral Mighty Fist did what Thoral Mighty Fist does best. I loved everything about this book so much.
I have no complaints about this book. The only negative I can think of is that it wasn’t long enough. It was so much fun; I want there to be more. More adventures of Thoral. More stories in this style. More humour on this level.
I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Brilliant and hilarious, this story is easy to get lost in. I noticed very few mistakes, and those I did were easily overlooked because the adventure was too fantastic to be interrupted.
I would one hundred percent recommend this book to absolutely everyone. This book is for anyone who loves fantasy tropes written in a fun and humorous way. If you like a mashup of Lord of the Rings meets Harry Potter written in a Terry Pratchett style with twists that are so unexpectedly obvious that they’re not obvious at all, then you must read Fish Wielder. Hardison has an enjoyable and absorbing writing style, it’s hard not to fall head over heels in love.
