Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
In times of uncertainty, when one’s hope of living to see the next day is severely threatened, miracles happen, especially in fantasy worlds. We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a fantasy novel that narrates the predicaments of Glen Bray, a fictional character, who is also the main protagonist in this book, and how he escaped from the Land of the Princess, a land plagued by wars, and found himself in the Kingdom of Voulhire. Most of the events in this book are set in the fictional kingdom of Voulhire. It is the first book in the We are Voulhire series.
This book has 174 pages. It is divided into around 21 chapters. However, since the book doesn’t have a table of contents, and the chapters are not numbered, the total number of chapters may be slightly more or less. The story is narrated from the third person’s point of view and in the past simple tense. The main narrator, Galen Bray, is also the main protagonist in the story.
After war erupted at the Land of the Princess, everyone scattered, looking for a way out of the land. Fortunately, Galen Bray found himself out of the land and into the Kingdom of Voulhire. He later realized that his late uncle, Galen Onita, had left his business to him. Although he hadn’t learned how to manage the business, Onita had left a helper. Will Galen Bray continue the legacy of his late uncle? How will life in Voulhire be any different from the life in the Land of the Princess? Will war follow him to this remote kingdom?
I liked several things about this book. To begin with, the moment I opened the file, I knew I’d enjoy it. I have always loved books with maps of a fictional world on the first page. It not only shows the efforts the author put in developing the storyline but also gives the reader a clear view of the fictional world. The author also did great in developing the characters. This is evident by the fact that the names of the characters are used as chapter titles. This enabled the author to switch perspectives to various characters. Since I didn’t find any grammatical errors while reading, this book was exceptionally edited.
This is a brilliant book. There’s nothing I disliked about it. However, I have a few improvement suggestions. I think the book will be more appealing if the author includes page numbers and the table of contents. Numbering the chapters and giving them better titles instead of using the names of the characters will also improve the book’s readability.
As mentioned above, there’s nothing I disliked about the book. The above improvement suggestions will only make the book better. I, therefore, rate it 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend it to anyone who likes action-packed fantasy novels. I can’t think of any groups of people who won’t enjoy reading it.
