Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
“Keep your head low, but your eyes ahead. Keep your mind on earth, but your heart among the stars" (We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, page 60).Who doesn't like a little magic in their lives, right? If you have an eye for something supernatural, this is the right pick for you. We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a combination of adventure, fantasy, and drama. So, are you ready to set your heart among the stars?
The book starts with an intriguing attack scene, that gives chills to the readers. After the introductory chapter, we see Galen Bray, our protagonist from the Lands of the Princes. The place is a nightmare of constant war, starvation, and death. On discovering that he's left with a good deal of fortune in Voulhire by his untold uncle he escapes to this land full of fascination and mysteries. Wilhem Arcolo is the rightful king of Voulhire. He along with his other officials including Lord Eldus, the new lord of Hillport, convinces the citizens that the very dangerous and powerful mage, Lord Meldorath is dead. But is he really dead? What are all the secrets that Hillport is going to unfold before Eldus? Would Galen survive in this new city where everything is a lie?
This book is the first of the six in the "We are Voulhire" book series. It is indeed a compelling masterpiece of sincerity and dedication. Because as we read it, we are living in it. The plot is a multiverse that has three worlds- the world of the living, the world of magic, and the world of souls. Reading this one was a completely thrilling and lively journey for I felt like living inside each of the characters as if some magic brews within these pages. My favorite character who got most of my attention was Lord Meldorath, the vicious villain. The way he is portrayed in the book creates terror and anxiety in the minds of the readers. The author has brilliantly planned and worked out every single scene right from the beginning. The map of Voulhire and the glossary of terms used in the book are all informative and praise-worthy. And the descriptions given about each character and place are short yet unique. The story is told from both Galen's and the author's perspectives in a very simple and understanding language so that we get a clear image of what exactly is happening.
The story ends abruptly making us wonder if this is actually over. Also, the pace was very slow in the beginning and took me some time to fall into it. But as this is the first book of the sequel, these factors are unavoidable. Introducing us to an entirely new realm and its systems and cultures requires time and risk. And another thing to mention is the lack of index, chapter name and number, and epilogue. If the book had these too, it would have been just perfect. Apart from these above-mentioned issues, I have to admit that Mr.Tysz has shown complete justice to the readers.
Being said all this, I rate We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies a 4 out of 4 stars for its amazing and typo-free explanation. The book is flawless, well-edited, and has a neatly planned execution of events making it worthy of this rating. The author magnificently trapped me in his world and I can't wait to read the following parts of this sequel. The book is most suitable for mature readers as it has some profanity. If you are someone with a “Hogwarts” heart, you can certainly go for it. Congratulating Mr.Tysz once again, all the love from India.
