Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
The first book in the series, We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is a Sci-Fi/ Fantasy novel that takes place in the physical world of the cosmos. It begins in the small town of Hillport, in the kingdom of Voulhire, where a powerful mage, Meldorath becomes the new Lord of the town. From there we are thrown across the ocean in the midst of warring princes, next to our protagonist Galen Bray. Leaving his home behind Galen becomes a refugee of Voulhire, wanting to become a blacksmith to carry on the legacy of his great uncle. This in turn sets in motion a series of adventures that he embarks upon with his new friends. While an old threat to the kingdom of Voulhire threatens to resurface again. The stories told through the eyes of different characters all come together to create the world of Voulhire inside the Multiverse.
The author, Matthew Tysz, through the world of Voulhire has tried to provide an insight into our own corruption filled worlds and has clearly shown the gaping difference between the rich and the working class. The characters are so wonderfully created with their own unique personalities, in such a way that even the antagonists are hard to hate. The fight scenes are brilliantly written down to the last detail and have all the elements of magic and even science.
To talk about the negative aspects of the book, in my opinion, there were none. After reading the book I could not find anything that I did not like about it. There were no errors in the book and therefore I can say that it was exceptionally well edited.
The book has underlying themes of politics, greed, war, anarchism, etc, all depicted under the veil of fantasy, taking place in a beautiful far-away empire, for the readers to discover. The book even has an illustrated map of Voulhire and its neighbouring areas at the beginning, while at the end of the book, the author has provided a glossary of all the terms that might be new to the readers and are unique to the series.
I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars, as it was a gripping read for me and I am also looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the, ‘We are Voulhire’ series. The book has also taken the time to explain the details of events and theories that might be a little difficult to understand at once.
I would recommend this book to people above the age of 18, as it contains mature language and sexually explicit scenes and references. This book also makes a good read for anyone interested in strong antagonists, powerful action and fight scenes. So if you love a good sci-fi/fantasy thriller, do give the ‘We are Voulhire’ series a try.
