The Devil Pulls the Strings by J. W. Zarek is based on Niccolò Paganini's three prominent compositions. It follows a Missouri musician, Boone Daniels who has extreme panic attacks in addition to his own demons and a music student Sapphire as they set on a path to complete a hundred year old prophecy. Sapphire is Doctor Stone's personal assistant and is loyal to him. It gives us an insight into the world of secret societies and Russian folklore. Professor Wickhamby guides them with it and makes them fulfill many life threatening tasks. He asks them to gather the three music pieces by Paganini. Certain two ancient secret societies believe that the music pieces have the power to summon the devil under the moonlight on a particular night. The societies will stop at nothing to gain them. Who knows what their conflict will lead to? The story has adventure, fantasy and suspense. It is a thriller with romance sprinkled on it like choco chips on a cupcake.

Boone got into this journey because he wanted to fulfill his dying friend's last wishes. He felt guilty because he had dueled his best friend and wanted redemption by visiting Doctor Stone but saw him getting murdered instead. He got entangled then and became an important piece of the puzzle in the prophecy. Boone has a great sense of humor and made himself my favorite. With his instant crush on a mad girl who smells like honeysuckle, he has got a lot of things going on.The author explained the scenes and characters with such great detail that it brought them to life. I felt like I was living this tale through Boone's eyes. This will have you hooked if you love classical music or history.

I found nothing negative in this book and loved it in every aspect. With poisoned blades and wendigos, it has an appealing sense of adventure.

This book inspired me to never give up and go where life takes me because we can't enjoy it if we don't know what it has in store for us. Digging more doesn't always get you into trouble, sometimes it helps you find something bigger than what you think is going on. It was paced just right.

I rate this book with 4 out of 4 stars. I found no errors in this book and believe that it has been professionally edited.

I would recommend it to people who like paranormal suspenses, fantasy or historical fiction. It's knowledgeable in many ways and makes a great read.
