The country of Voulhire and the multiverse associated with it is a new fantasy world set up by the author Matthew Tysz in his book We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies. Voulhire is a flourishing empire with a long history and is prospering at all fronts. The story begins in the small town of Hillport in Voulhire which is the centre of action in this story. There is a struggle between the King of Voulhire, an old trusted friend and magician (referred to as a mage in this world) Meldorath and the rebellion group Riva Rohavi who are constantly trying to overtake the empire. The reader is introduced to the intricacies of the bureaucratic system in place and the political games played by the people in charge.

Parallel to this narrative of Voulhire and Hillport, we follow a character named Galen who is trying to escape his war torn nation and his terrible past by starting a new life in Voulhire arranged by his long estranged uncle. He is naive but observant. Galen is slowly unfolding his journey which is directed by people and forces beyond his control. His storyline seems to be converging to the main narrative of Hillport but they never really converge in this book.

We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is an interesting read which immerses the reader in this new universe introduced by the author Matthew Tysz. This book is like an introductory book to this new universe where much more interesting things are bound to happen. There are many aspects of this universe and many characters which have not been dealt in detail but have been only hinted at. This builds up curiosity for later stages and gives an idea of the potential of the mystic nature of this world. The story uses the themes of rivalry, magic, multiple worlds, power politics, war and a personal quest to explore this new universe.

My favourite aspect of this book is that there is no dull moment. The story keeps moving forward with interesting revelations at every turn. The narrative style used varies throughout the book. The parallel storylines and the different narrative styles make it a much more interesting read rather than making it confusing. The characters are rich with their distinctive styles and motives which we get glimpses of as the story progresses. This is a perfect set up for what can turn out to be a very enchanting world for the readers. It left me asking for more and the curiosity to know what lies ahead. I didn't find any drawback as such in this book.

There were no grammatical or syntactical errors found by me in the book which shows that the book is very well edited. The language is simple and easy to understand with very few cases of profanities and couple of references to sexual terms here and there. The book contains graphic details of the violent acts but they are not disturbing. I would recommend this book to teenagers older than 14-15 years of age. The young adult population will definitely like it. This is a must read for the people who like to read fantasy novels as this new world promises to be a delightful ride. It will leave the reader asking for more with many questions about the characters in their mind. I will give this book 4 out of 4 stars, for it is a great introduction to a new world filled with mystic and magic.
