Official Review: The Infinium Issue 5 by Rich Perez

One day, while mowing the lawn, Brian Villa was kidnapped by an alien entity known as “Infinium” with the intent on finding its champion. The Infinium is a life force nearly as old as the universe that possesses power and might throughout the cosmos. There is nothing more feared, loved, and misjudged. . He, among others, was chosen because of his feeling of emptiness. In order to get back home, he will have to prove his worthiness to the alien using the power it has given him through combat. If he succeeds, he will receive the ultimate gift. Now on Durdara, a planet known for combatants, Brian has to fight to the death. If he succeeds, all his universal questions will be answered. There is not failure, however, only death.
As he continues to fight these combatants, not all play fair and some seem more prepared than others. One in fact, Arnok the Invincible intends to use the Infinium power to take over the universe. Only he and the one known as Eteriman are aware of his plans and only they can stop them.
In this issue, Brian is forced to kill the last galactic Valkyrie, who had sworn vengeance against Arnok, but refused to say why. As Brian asks around about Arnok, no one can or will tell him anything about him. After healing the Eteriman, Brian realizes that he has the ability to read minds when he touches someone. Determined to know who is Arnok and what he is up to, Brian goes and touches the creature, only to discover that he is a genetically engineered being for a purpose. Unfortunately, the alien catches on before Brian can uncover more and he swears to kill Brian. Will Brian and the Eteriman succeed in stopping Arnok? Will Brian be the victor?
Although the comics are short in length, each issue is jam-packed with complex plot and characters. This issue is no exception. The illustrations are dark, detailed, and befitting of the mood of the book. The bold, large speech bubbles are easier to read and follow during the story’s progression. The illustrations and text complement each other well. Although the recap wasn’t as helpful as in previous issues, the story was still easy to pick up where readers left off.
The only problem I saw other than the recap is the dream sequences were confusing and hard to follow. It took a little while for me to figure out that they were most likely flashbacks from his past. These, however, will probably come up later.
Overall, I’d give it 3 out of 4 stars. Great comic books series with lots of twists and turns. This is definitely one I will eagerly await the sequel on and readers who like alien action comics will too
