Enter the world of Voulhire. A kingdom where many can find adventure. As the first installment in the series by Matthew Tysz, We are Voulhire: A new arrival under great skies serves as an introduction to the characters and the world itself. The novel centres around principles of science, fantasy and spirituality which creates a balanced world of order driven by the chaos within.

As one follows the choices and developments of the characters in their daily lives, one will start to realise that not everything is as it appears and that this glamorous and orderly world has its own dark and ominous side.

Rather than focusing on a linear perspective, Tysz's story focuses on various perspectives where events intertwine. The novel is written in a series format, as if to give great detail of the characters you get to know throughout the book. Even though this is the first installment of the series, you get to see the characters develop and grow in their given chapters.

The fictional world is also greatly developed and portrayed in such a way that it feels like the fictional world has its own story to tell. It not only gives a rich historical element to the story, but also adds an adventurous and mysterious element to it as well.

One thing that was a bit confusing to me was the use of some modern English terminology. I was not sure if it was to promote a certain dialect or if it was a typing error. It did not exactly hinder my reading experience, but was something of notice.

Overall, I truly enjoyed reading the book. I would give this novel a 4/4 rating because of the in-depth development of the story and the attention to detail of its characters.

I would definitely recommend this novel to an audience who loves adventurous novels, but would not mind the integration of fantasy and science fiction. I would also suggest this novel be read by an older audience due to its borderline violent and language usage.
