Review of Fish Wielder
Thoral Mighty Fist, or otherwise known as Fist Wielder, roams the land of Grome with his loyal fish companion and his tiger-striped steed. In between binge drinking and picking up fights in taverns, he would accept offers of quests and adventure so he may have gold to support his drinking. However, Thoral has a bigger part to play in the world of Grome. An evil plan is brewing that threatens the safety of the land, and only he has the strength to put an end to this plot.
Grome is a magical land filled with various types of beings, such as elves, humans, gnomes, and talking animals. The author, Jim Hardison, was able to build a mystical world that captured my interest. The world-building was done so smoothly that I didn’t feel overwhelmed by it all. The narrative was detailed but not excessive. The detail in the writing was what made this fictional world seem real in my mind.
What I liked the most about this book was the humor that was infused into its story. The light humor present complemented the action-packed nature of the story. Additionally, I liked how the book was able to surprise me at many turns. I am excellent at predicting events in a story, but this book packed some twists that shocked me. The touch of romance was a good addition, and it was very fun to read. My most favorite character would be Brad. Brad is Thoral’s fish companion who, ironically, doesn’t know how to swim. In the entirety of the book, Brad is the most reasonable and sane one. Thoral might be the fist in the story, but Brad is the brains.
The only thing that I did not like about this book was the character of Thoral’s love interest. Although I liked the romance between them, Nalweegie came off as spoiled and immature. This book is really good, and I would recommend this to readers who are looking for a book with a little bit of everything in it. Whether they are looking for adventure, romance, fantasy, or a book about friendship, this book would be a perfect read. However, I would not recommend this to readers who are opposed to reading a book with violence in it.
I found no errors in the book. Therefore, I would say that it was exceptionally edited. I immensely enjoyed reading it, and I would gladly read the next addition to this series. The writing was done exceptionally, and the plot itself was very good. In conclusion, I’m giving Fish Wielder 4 out of 4 stars.
