Fish Wielder by J.R.R.R.(Jim )Hardison is basically a satirical novel with a topping of absurdity and fantasy.
The mighty hero Thoral Fist Wielder and his sidekick,Brad, the talking koi fish are given a chance to save the world by finding the Pudding of Power. They travel with the magical horse named Warlordhorse.Thoral is a warrior from Gnome, also called Fist Wielder. But nobody knows about his past. They engage in multiple fights and interacts with the world around, throughout their journey. They fight monsters like Necrogrond and recsue maidens. They encounter many creatures seen in fantasy novels.Readers find more about Thoral through his journey of exploring the Bad Religion. As he realises the source of his powers, his past becomes another important factor.Thoral had to make a life changing decision inorder to move ahead. He must defeat the leader of the Bad Religion, the Heartless One or else Gnome will be destroyed with the magic Pudding.

This book reminded me of Don Quixote, a favourite character of mine. The whole track of the story is wild, violent yet comic. There are interesting plot twists and unexpected yet satisfying ending.Shifts in narrative point of view are also well executed. Climax and the last chapters are the best part of the book.We are reminded of multiple fantasy movies and books.

What I loved the most about the book is its setting and vivid imagination in developing the storyline. There is a blend of magical elements from different magical worlds, to create a perfect atmosphere and that highlights the immense effort put in by the author. How some words are presented with meaning in conversations between Thoral and Brad were also interesting.

What I disliked in the book is its very slow pace. The initial chapters were very tough to get through because they couldn't capture my interest due to lack of clarity. Some incidents were very much silly but complicated that author failed to convey the intended ideas.

Rating 4 out of 4 stars for this well edited work. All engaging components necessary for a fantasy novel are beautifully woven in this book.Characters are exceptionally brilliant and the supernatural encounters are equally appealing. It is definitely an enjoyable read even for children.
Fantasy fans will definitely love this well crafted novel.People who are not familiar with fantasy novels may miss some of the references given.
