Devan Elaniel was the powerful and greedy Archon of New City until Valen, a tricky carmelineal, killed him without hesitation. Now, Dalen Pythorael is the one who wants to become the new Archon and rule the world. However, Tabitha is an intelligent woman who might be able to stop those selfish beings with the help of her new sisters. One of them is Danette, a vivid and funny girl who is also a pervert and a strong fighter. The other girls are Ariel, Sasha, Claren, Symone, and Peyton, who have dark pasts and special abilities. In this book, Tabitha will have to find all her sisters before Elaniel's supporters kill them. She has a lot of different trustworthy allies but also some new problems to solve.

New City Chronicles: Book III - The Star of Arafel by E.L. Hendrix is the third book of this incredible sci-fi trilogy. The narrator is Mark Verigratu, Ariel's husband, who tells the story after the events unfold. This book has unique beings, such as the carmelineals, who can have the ability to possess people and to change their appearances. Nevertheless, it also contains angels and creatures that can be called demons.

My favorite aspect of this book was the characters' development. In this novel, the author shows that each character has different principles and reasons to fight. But the narrative also reveals that the personas aren't solely evil or good, and their actions don't necessarily define their natures and personalities. For example, Ariel was a gentle girl who wanted to help everyone. After Mark cheated on her with Tabitha in the previous volume, she became spiteful and cautious around Danette, who reminded her of Tabitha. On the other hand, Danette seemed to be a lovely girl with speech difficulties and a unique personality, but now the author shows the traumas and abuses she passed through her entire life to become who she is in this novel.

There wasn't anything that I didn't enjoy in this entire novel. It's a brilliant dystopian book that brings a society that lives under constant surveillance while being sustained by slavery. It contains only a few errors that didn't disturb my reading, so I'm not taking a star off because of them. Therefore, I can say that this book was professionally edited.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It's a unique sci-fi book that brings charismatic characters with engaging stories. I recommend this novel to those readers who enjoy dystopian novels with strong female protagonists and complex character development. Nevertheless, I don't recommend it to those readers who are sensitive to the themes of trauma, physical, psychological, and sexual abuse since this narrative might disturb them. Besides, it contains profanities and moderate erotic content, so young readers shouldn't read it too.

I like that the author has developed the characters to such an extent that each of them has different principles and motives.

I'm so glad you explained what a Carmelineal was, Google was turning up no results. Further, I enjoy the idea of the good vs evil trope with more rounded characters which this book has. The characters appear to have human qualities and it makes them more relatable. I love the idea of a well-developed world with fictional beings as well. Thank you for the excellent review. Have a lovely day.

I might need to be in the right mood to start reading a dystopia but this one seems well developed under all points of view, so I'll look into this series. Thank you for your great review!

It sounds like the characters were well developed and the storyline doesn't let one down either. I will add this to my bookshelf. Thank you for the review.
