Review of Steel Reign: Flight of The Starship Concord
Steel Reign: Flight of The Starship Concord by Braxton A. Cosby is a science fiction that follows the life of Cassius, or as he now calls himself, Reign. Steel Reign has gone from serving alongside royals to being a spy and now a bounty hunter. The book opens with Reign waiting to close a deal in his apartment slash office. When the deal goes south, he ends up blowing his apartment and going on the run like he always does. Aboard a spaceship, he meets Gifford in the most unpleasant way. The two end up becoming acquaintances and Gifford offers to help Reign on his quest to find Olia, his half-sister. Is Gifford genuine, or does he have ulterior motives? Reign and Gifford plan to steal the Concord so they can trade it for an invitation on the Eclipse where Olia is being kept as a prisoner. While in process of stealing the Concord, Reign bumps into Serias, an old spy partner and lover. Reign left Serias for dead a long time back and he had no idea whether she survived or died. Will they be able to stand each other for Olia’s sake after their last encounter many solar cycles back? Most importantly, is Reign saving his sister purely out of love or is he doing it for his own selfish reasons?
Steel Reign: Flight of The Starship Concord was a page-turner. It would be an understatement to say I loved this book. Braxton A. Cosby’s writing style was superb. The execution of plots was done so meticulously it felt like I was watching a movie. The book was written from Reign’s first-person narrative. I liked the fact that the author did not use multiple narratives as this sometimes tends to get confusing. The plots were constantly switching between the present and Reign’s memories of the past. The author managed to write fluently such that I never got lost in between. The book had just the perfect pace. I never felt a drop in action or pace at any moment. The vocabulary was not too heavy, making it an easily enjoyable read. It was not too simple either but was just the right amount of sophisticated.
What I loved most about this book was the amount of humor the author managed to throw in this magnificent read. The characters were on a serious mission to save somebody’s life, but that did not mess with their sense of humor one bit. Reign was an admirable person. Although he came out as a cold heartless bastard during some of his narrations, deep down he was a good person who actually cared about more than just himself. The level of technology in this book was mind-blowing. It had me wondering whether the world would be a better place with such advanced technology or whether it would be that much more dangerous.
I came across a few minor errors, which I felt could have been totally avoided. There was one thing I strongly disliked about the author’s writing style. For the word “one”, he always used a number. Sometimes the use of the word required a pronunciation of “one” and not “1” and mispronunciation led to failure to understand the sentence without reading it repeatedly. Nonetheless, Steel Reign: Flight of The Starship Concord still deserves 4 out of 4 stars.
There is profanity throughout the book, but I felt it deserving and it made the characters that much more relatable. making it suitable for young adults. Lovers of science fiction will find this book worth every minute of their attention. There are no biblical beliefs so it is suitable for all religions.

At first I thought he just changed his name for fun and his ego, but then I learned it was beyond that. Thanks for commenting.Medhansh Bhardwaj wrote: ↑05 Oct 2021, 03:57 Cassius to Reign? That name change is incredible, and so is the character change! Thanks for the great review!
