Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies, by Matthew Tysz, presents a world full of thrills, suspense, and mystery, as well as a struggle for power and authority. This book is the first installment of Matthew Tysz's We are Voulhire series, which is set in a fantasy world where the Kingdom of Voulhire exists.
The story begins in Hillport, one of the towns in Voulhire, where the magistrate Meldorath and his companions kill Lord Orlin and his soldiers, establishing Meldroth as Lord on Hillport. After a period of time, Meldorath is captured and imprisoned for his illegal witchcraft by King Wilhelm, King of Voulhire, and Eldus, the previous judge of Soulhire (Voulhire's capital), is appointed Lord for Hillport. Eldus attempts to transform Hillport from a small town into an economic powerhouse, but there is a covert plot against him.
The author, on the other hand, focuses on another character named Galen. Galen, a young man who discovers he has an uncle in Magnum Caelum, one of Voulhire's cities, flees aboard a ship from the Lands of the Princes to Magnum Caelum, only to discover that his uncle has died and that he is the heir to his property. Galen then finds himself on a journey with Rowan, his uncle's executor, to obtain a unique metal in order to follow in his uncle's footsteps and master the profession of blacksmithing.
This book's fantasy world was, in my opinion, well-created. One of the positive aspects of this book that I noticed was the author's ability to transport readers to a new fantasy world by describing the details and allowing readers to see a variety of characters and their personalities. I also liked the mystery surrounding some characters, such as Meldorath, about whom I had no idea what kind of illegal magic he used or what he planned to do. This story has a lot of suspense and thrills since the events twist in an unexpected way.
On the other hand, there was nothing about this book that I disliked. In addition to what I previously stated, the book is easy to read, the language is simple, and the writer seamlessly transitions between events. To make reading easier and more understandable, the author included a glossary of terms, concepts, and names unique to Voulhire at the end of the book. I also found no grammar or spelling errors in the book, so I gave it a 4 out of 4 stars rating.
I had a great time reading the first book in the We are Voulhire series, and I'm curious to see what happens to two of the characters (Meldorath and Eldus's son), which may entice me to read the second book in the series. As a result, I recommend this book to all fantasy and science fiction fans who enjoy suspense and mystery, and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did.
