Review of Heirdom
The number of times I have wished to be a princess are too many to count. The thought of the privileges, everyone at my beck and call and the power to do what I want to has had me wishing to be one, well maybe in another lifetime if not this one. However, the princess we meet in Tayma Tameem’s Valoria: Heirdom wishes to escape the gilded cage that is royalty. Zenia is a spirited young lady caught up the courtly games and power struggle that ensues in the three kingdoms of Al Kunooz, Valoria, Intellectus and Tranquilium.
Ravaged by lethal betrayals, gruesome murders and worse of all, destructive war, the royal families of Intellectus and Valoria sought to join themselves and their kingdoms in matrimony to stop the Great War and to ensure peace for the sake of the two kingdoms and its people. The marriages in question are that of Zenia and the Crown Prince of Intellectus, Prince Adam and that her brother, Crown Prince of Valoria, Prince Zain and Adam’s sister Princess Amber, all to take place in three years’ time. With tension and suspicion high between the two families, Princess Zenia is torn between the need to do what she desires or her duty to her kingdom as a Princess of Valoria. But when the royal family of Intellectus comes to Valoria earlier than expected and her brother’s wedding preparations begin, questions begin to cloud Zenia’s mind about the urgency, the past, present and futures of the two kingdoms. She tries to form a relationship with her betrothed and his family while seeking answers to the mysteries surrounding the tensions between the two families and their kingdoms and the circumstances leading to the Great War, completely unknowing of the danger that surrounds them all.
Valoria: Heirdom is an emotionally investing fictional book, made up of 32 chapters; each chapter told in different points of views of the characters in the book, predominantly Zeina’s and Adam’s. I loved this story telling approach to writing by Tameem as it allows one to glimpse into the minds and live the inner thoughts and actions of each of the characters in the book.
I loved the descriptive language in the book as it appealed to my imaginative nature, building up the enigma that is Al Kunooz, its kingdoms, the characters and their interesting lives. The book is purely entertaining and best for those who like to visit fantasy land once in a while.
I am elated to say that I could not find a negative aspect to the book as the story telling was precise, whimsical and flawless. The book appears to be professionally edited as I came across few errors. Therefore I am happy to award the book four out four stars. This book is ideal for individuals who are interested in a fantasy filled and romanticized reading experience for entertainment. Valoria:Heirdom also helps individuals to learn and understand the intricacies of people in leadership positions and to learn the paradox of desire and duty.
