On the mystique lands of Grome, an unlikely duo - Thoral, the mysterious Mighty Fist Wielder, and Brad, his talking koi-fish friend who unsurprisingly cannot swim, spend their time on daily quests exploring unknown places, doing superhero stuff, killing grotesque monsters, rescuing princesses, hogging treasures and filling up their pouches with magical marvels. Their carefree adventures take a grave swivel when they find out that they’re the unsuspecting part of a prodigious plot.

J.R.R.R. (Jim) Hardison’s Fish Wielder, the first part of hopefully a long series, is a fantastic fantasy novel with a classic mixture of magic, action and comedy, and follows an exceptionally well-built, valiant yet vulnerable protagonist, Thoral. This book will take you on an unforgettable journey to an unknown land populated by elves, gnomes, weird talking animals and seemingly unbeatable monsters.

The book doesn’t move at a brisk pace and hence, my initial thoughts were that there’s no underlying storyline until it slowly revealed itself at the perfect time. The author sure knows how to surprise his audience. The powerful characters, including the female ones, have a profound impact on the amazingly written action. A thorough depiction of the action made the scenes seem almost visual. Although some parts depicted blood and gore, which I felt added a zing, the clever use of humor toned it down.

The fact that the book is so well-written clearly shows the author’s in-depth knowledge of literary works. The nuanced language used in this amazing oeuvre enhanced my reading experience tenfold. Grammar was on point the whole time and although I tried very hard to find errors, I found none. Another small touch that absolutely delighted me was the author’s subtle attempt to improve the readers’ vocabulary, in an amusing way.

I will gladly rate this piece of work 4 out of 4 stars without any second thoughts. This book was a masterpiece with an intelligent plot, enchanting action and delightful humor. And of course, there’s nothing better than a book with absolutely no errors.

I tried not to reveal too much about the book and its characters because I believe such an outstanding read should be explored firsthand. This novel is a blessing for not only the fantasy lovers out there but also everyone else. If you haven’t been into fantasy before, I believe this is the masterwork that will convert you. I suggest diving into this enthralling tale right away.
