Review of Fish Wielder
Fish Wielder by Jim Hardison is an exuberant and jaunty ride. The one thing that sets apart Fish Wielder from other great fantasies and mythologies is its rib-tickling and free-spirited fashion. The author keeps this tone throughout the book greatly. The hero of the book is Thoral Mighty Fist, also known as the “Fist Wielder” of Grome. He has a very distinct personality, from the attire of a pirate to a very brawny physique. The story takes us from knowing Thoral as the “Fist Wielder” to the “Fish Wielder.”
The plot is appealing and fun from the start to the end. We follow Thoral on his journey of confronting The Heartless One, leader of the Bad Religion. The principal task and goal for Thoral to achieve are to stop The Heartless One from eating the “Pudding of Power.”The pudding has the mystical abilities to make the person eating it the most powerful and with unbeatable abilities in the entire Grome. Thoral starts this mission assignment with his camaraderie that includes a very witty and enticing Koi fish called Brad, along with Elfrod's Elf army. We also meet a very majestic beauty on the way called Nalweegie, who is head over heels for Thoral. She has made Thoral hers and won’t back down, which leads to quite wholesome events. The plot unravels in unimaginable, ridiculous ways that one couldn’t have expected. It’s unpredictable and full of fun drama.
I really liked the entire story. Every part of this book is quite enjoyable. I would categorize it as a very warm and light-hearted comedy. Every character is so chirpy and with a distinct personality trait. The author has described the characters in significant detail and has provided them with an abundant life history and character depth. The plot has a carefree, full of fun narrative, but it throughout sticks to what it intends to be. The author has done a brilliant job in making the most unpredictable things happen but still have them make sense and carry meaning. This stood out the most for me. The way the plot unravelled just captured my whole mind. The names of people and the places are jolly and humorous. The plot is very engaging and original in its own way. I found the book special and unique.
There is nothing I disliked in the book. I found it to be vibrant and bright. It was as colorful and joyful as a rainbow.
I rate this book four out of four stars. It resonates with many great mythological stories but has its own originality embedded. I wholeheartedly enjoyed reading it.
I recommend this book to children above ten years of age and mainly young adults. The book is quite fun and interesting. Teenagers would like it a lot, and kids will enjoy it very much as well.
